SECTION 8 HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHERS (LACDA)

Los Angeles County Department Authority (LACDA) administers the Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) program countywide. Vouchers may be used with private landlords for apartments, townhomes, or single family homes.

Finding Affordable, Accessible, and Special Needs Housing

  • LA County Housing Resource Center - Affordable/special needs/accessible/emergency listings; live call center support. Visit Housing.LACounty.gov.
  • Accessible & Affordable Housing Registry (City of LA) - earch accessible units in City assisted properties regionwide. Visit AAHR.
  • Older Adults (County resources) - Find connections to financial assistance, counseling, in home support, and housing navigation for aging in place. Visit LA County Aging & Older Adult resources.
  • Fair Housing Help - If you encounter discrimination in renting, lending, advertising, or other housing activities, contact the Housing Rights Center for investigation and counseling. Call the Housing Rights Hotline 800-477-5977 or visit the Housing Rights Center.

Homebuyer & Financial Resources

  • CalHFA MyHome - State down payment/closing cost assistance as a deferred payment junior loan for first time buyers used with a CalHFA first mortgage. Learn more at CalHFA MyHome.
  • LACDA Home Ownership Programs (HOP80/HOP120) - County secondary mortgage assistance for eligible first time buyers. View LACDA Home Ownership Program.
  • GSFA Mortgage Credit Certificate (MCC) - Federal tax credit equal to 20% of annual mortgage interest (dollar for dollar reduction of federal tax liability). Note: As of January 1, 2025, GSFA reports the MCC is currently out of funds until new CDLAC allocation is available. Learn more at GSFA MCC overview.

Disaster Relief

  • CalHFA is using National Mortgage Settlement funds to deliver mortgage relief to families devastated by recent California disasters, providing assistance for those whose homes are destroyed or severely damaged to the point they have been deemed uninhabitable. CalAssist Mortgage Fund provides mortgage payment relief to qualifying applicants for up to 3 months and provides a maximum of $20,000 to the mortgage servicer. Visit CalHFA
