Correcting a Disabled / Handicap Placard Violation

Did you receive a parking citation for not displaying your disabled person placard or for not displaying a current placard?

The individuals who received the citation needs to show proof that he or she had a current placard with a disabled person placard registration at the time the citation was issued.

How to Correct Your Violation

If you were issued a citation for violation for not displaying your disabled person placard or for not displaying a current placard, you must provide valid proof of correction with your citation or notice.

Placard and registration inspection for valid proof of correction may be obtained at any law enforcement or authorized agency such as one of the following:

  • California Highway Patrol
  • County Sheriff’s Department
  • Local City/Town Police
  • California Department of Motor Vehicles

IMPORTANT: A photocopy of your registration will not be recognized as proof of correction.

NOTE: Any fees paid to an authorized agency for the inspection do not include the $25 reduced fine. The $25 fine must be mailed with your valid proof of correction and citation or courtesy notice.

Upon obtaining the proof of correction, mail it along with a $25 reduced violation fee via a check or money order, no cash is accepted, to the City’s Parking Enforcement Center (see mailing address below). Please note, this must be done within 21 calendar days from the citation issuance date or by the courtesy notice due date.
