Art Conservation and Restoration Clinic

Led by volunteers from Art Recovery Los Angeles, this workshop is designed to teach participants the basics of conservation and restoration for sentimental items and heirlooms damaged by wildfires. Topics include materials, techniques, removing the smell of smoke from small objects, and more.
Speakers:
Ellen Moody (she/her) is an art conservator at the Getty Conservation Institute (GCI), where she develops projects to advance modern and contemporary art conservation and support its practitioners. A proud Angelino, she is Co-Chair of the Conservation Association of Los Angeles, a network of professionals dedicated to caring for art and historic materials who live and work in the greater LA area.
Ronel Namde (she/her) is Associate Conservator of Photographs in the Department of Conservation and Preservation at the Getty Research Institute. She has worked with a wide variety of materials, is passionate about equity-based work, and has a particular interest in historic, documentary, and archival photographs and non- paper-based supports.
Nicole Passerotti (she/her) is an art conservator and the Director of the Mellon Opportunity program at the UCLA/Getty Conservation Graduate program for Cultural Heritage. She is a founding member of Art Recovery Los Angeles (ARLA), a conservation collective assisting communities dealing with disaster recovery.
Carolina Benitez Squires (she/her) is a Conservation Technician at the Autry Museum of the American West. She earned her BA in Art History from California State University, Long Beach in 2021. Her conservation training includes internships at the Margaret Herrick Library, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, Getty Conservation Institute, Getty Research Institute, Getty Museum, and the Brooklyn Museum. She is currently serving as the Social Media Officer for Conservation Association of Los Angeles (CALA) and Art Recovery LA (ARLA).
Kiernan Graves (she/her) is the owner of Site & Studio Conservation, a private practice that specializes in the conservation of wall paintings, mosaics, and other decorated architectural surfaces. She also has experience working with portable paintings. Currently, she enjoys equity-centered teaching and mentoring emerging conservators through UCLA, the LA County Dept. of Arts & Culture, and Sardis Archeological Exploration.
