New Malibu Planning Manager Brings Deep Local Knowledge and Experience to Planning Department
(Malibu, CA) – The City of Malibu has hired Chris Deleau as Planning Manager, bringing years of highly local, specialized planning, land use, and regulatory experience to the Planning Department, Mayor John Sibert announced today.
“I am extremely pleased to have a planner who not only has Chris Deleau’s experience in Malibu’s highly complicated regulatory environment, but also has deep roots in Malibu and has a love for the community he will be serving,” Mayor Sibert said.
“Chris’ extensive knowledge of Malibu’s laws, planning code, community and regulations means that he will hit the ground running on day one. He will be a major asset as we continue to fill critical positions in our Planning Department.”
Deleau is a member of the American Planning Association and the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) with a long and successful background in municipal, residential, commercial and agricultural planning and consulting, working most recently as Special Projects Manager for land use planning and development consulting firm Schmitz and Associates, Inc. He also is a licensed California attorney.
He has worked extensively on development standards with several coastal and inland cities and counties, including Malibu, County of Los Angeles, County of Ventura, County of Santa Barbara, City of Newport Beach and other jurisdictions. He has established productive relationships with representatives of key state agencies including the California Coastal Commission, Caltrans, State Water Resources Control Board, and the State Lands Commission.
Deleau is an avid surfer and his family has lived in and operates several small businesses in Malibu.
After graduating from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a Bachelor’s in American Literature, Deleau received his Juris Doctorate from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law.
