Extreme Athlete, Social Activist & Malibu Native Johnny Strange Featured at Next Malibu Library Speaker Series

(Malibu, CA) – The 2015 season of the Malibu Library Speaker Series continues with an exciting discussion with international extreme athlete, social activist and ‎Malibu native Johnny Strange, Wednesday, June 17 at 7:00 PM at Malibu City Hall’s Civic Theater.

Strange will share his outrageous experiences of skydiving, wingsuit flying, base jumping, big-wave surfing, and climbing Mt. Everest. At age 12, he climbed his first world-class peak, Mt. Vinson Massif in Antarctica. This began his journey towards becoming the youngest person ever to climb all seven of the world’s highest peaks when he was only 17 years old.

Strange has base-jumped into the Grand Canyon, has flown in a wingsuit above the Swiss Alps, trekked to the North Pole, skydived into the South Pole, surfed 30-foot waves in Hawaii and Portugal, and once completed an ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) Ice Bucket Challenge in mid-freefall while skydiving. He was awarded the honor of "Young Champion" in 2010 at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.

Strange will also discuss his social activism, advocating for research and treatment of Parkinson's disease, and advocating to stop genocide in the world. The discussion will be followed by a Q&A with the speaker and free refreshments.
