Ribbon Cutting of PCH Bike Route Improvement Project &
Malibu’s First Ever Bike Lane

(Malibu, CA) – Malibu City Councilmembers will be joined by Caltrans and Metro officials, City Commissioners, the L.A. County Bicycle Coalition, local cyclists and residents on April 29 to cut the ribbon on the PCH Bike Route Improvements Project and Malibu’s first-ever bike lane. At the event, local cyclists will ride their bikes through the ribbon on the bike lane on PCH at Zuma Beach.

“In addition to being a historic, scenic highway and important cycling route, PCH is Malibu’s Main Street, so it’s crucial that we find solutions that work for all of its users,” said Malibu Mayor John Sibert. “This project is a great example of what we can achieve when PCH’s users and agencies work together to make PCH safer for all.”

The project improves both the existing PCH bike “route” and creates Malibu’s first-ever bike “lane.”  The six-foot wide bike lane is a separate lane for bicycle traffic only marked by white road stripes. A bike route is a route for mixed vehicle and bicycle traffic marked by a “Bike Route” sign. The new two-mile PCH bike lane runs along beautiful Zuma Beach. The shoulder was also widened along the same section of highway to increase the distance between parked vehicles and cyclists.

The project was funded by the Caltrans’ Highway Safety Improvement Program, L.A. County Measure R, Federal Transportation Equity Act and City general fund.

The ribbon cutting takes place Wednesday, April 29 at 10:00 AM in the Zuma Beach parking lot located at PCH and Morning View Dr. Map - https://goo.gl/maps/uE1Qm.
