Former NBA Star and Sacramento Mayor to Speak at 2014 Malibu Library Speakers’ Series
October 14, 2014 (Malibu, CA) Sacramento Mayor and former NBA star Kevin Johnson will be featured at the 2014 Malibu Library Speaker Series on Wednesday, October 22 at 7:00 PM at Malibu City Hall. The event will be hosted by the City of Malibu at Malibu City Hall, 23825 Stuart Ranch Road, and is jointly funded by the County of Los Angeles and the City of Malibu.
Kevin Johnson is the first African-American Mayor of the State’s Capitol when elected in November 2009 and he was re-elected to a second term in June 2012. He has aimed to reshape how city government serves its citizens by improving public safety, reforming public education and enhancing quality of life.
Johnson played 12 seasons in the NBA, for the Phoenix Suns where he earned honors as three-time All-Star, and for the Cleveland Cavaliers. After retiring from basketball, Johnson served as Chief Executive Offer of St. HOPE, a non-profit organization focused on urban revitalization though public education, civic leadership, economic development and the arts. Every step of the way, Mayor Kevin Johnson has displayed leadership, experienced success, and served others.
