National Fall Prevention Awareness Week

(Malibu, CA) - The Malibu Senior Center has a full week September 22-26, with the National Fall Prevention Awareness Week and lots of other educational and entertaining activities.

National Fall Prevention Awareness Week is September 22-26. Among older adults, falls are the leading cause of injury deaths, unintentional injuries, and hospital admissions for trauma. Health care costs for falls and rehabilitation average $70 billion a year. During Fall Prevention Awareness Week, the Senior Center will have presentations and workshops for older adults, families, caregivers, and the general public.

The Prescription Drug Drop-Off Program will be available throughout the week from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Malibu Senior Center. Seniors can drop off your unused or expired prescription drugs to be safely disposed of. Needles not accepted.

Free Blood Pressure Checks will be available all week from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Seniors can drop by the Center to get their blood pressure taken with the new blood pressure monitor.

Free Presentation: Strengthening Exercises to Reduce Your Fall Risk, will be on Monday, September 22, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, in the Zuma Room. Independent Physical Therapy will share specific exercises to improve strength and balance in order to help prevent falls.
