[ARCHIVED] City Council to Hold Dedication for “Anchor for Malibu,” the City’s Newest Public Art Piece

Anchor Dedication

The Malibu City Council invites the entire community to attend a public ceremony to dedicate “Anchor for Malibu,” the City’s newest public art piece, on Thursday, July 25, at 10:00 AM at Legacy Park. After the unveiling of the sculpture, guests are invited to stay and enjoy light refreshments.

The sculpture was donated to the City by Malibu resident Dan Sandel in 2017. It was created in 2004 by Israeli sculptor Emanuel Hatzofe at his studio in the Jaffa port neighborhood of Tel Aviv, Israel. Sandel visited Hatzofe’s studio in 2005 and purchased the sculpture for his home in Malibu. The six-foot, five inch-tall sculpture weighs 3,300 lbs.

The City of Malibu is dedicated to promoting arts and culture activities, programs, events, and public art as part of overall efforts to enrich the lives of residents and support the many artists in every imaginable medium and discipline that call Malibu home.  For more information about the “Anchor for Malibu” or the City’s cultural arts programs, call 310-456-2489, ext. 225 or email jbobbett@malibucity.org
