All community members are invited to attend an evening of poetry, music and films reflecting on the experience of and recovery from the Woolsey Fire in conjunction with the art exhibition “Radical Beauty, Malibu Rising” on Friday, June 21, 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM at City Hall.
The City of Malibu Cultural Arts Commission and Poet Laureate Committee will host the event, featuring poetry readings by artists featured in the book “Radical Beauty, Malibu After the Fire,” by former Malibu Poet Laureate Ricardo Means Ybarra. Immediately following the poetry reading, the City will screen several films in the Malibu Civic Theater. The films, made by community members, cover a variety of topics related to the experience of and recovery from the Woolsey Fire.
Radical Beauty, Malibu Rising is a community-wide collaboration featuring artwork related to the Woolsey Fire. Reflecting on a moment of healing and recovery, the community has come together to show how artists have interpreted the devastation that struck the Malibu community while uncovering the beauty in togetherness, nature and resiliency.
The exhibition features artwork in all many media including photography, painting, drawing, collage, free standing art, videos and written work. The exhibition is located in Malibu City Hall and will be on display through August 2019. The exhibition can be viewed any time during open hours, Monday through Thursday 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM and Fridays 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. City Hall is located at 23825 Stuart Ranch Rd., Malibu CA 90265.
