As part of the City's commitment to protect the environment by reducing plastic pollution, the use of plastic sandbags was prohibited by the City Council in June 2017. The ban was temporarily suspended during the heavy winter storms as a public safety measure. Please replace all plastic sandbags with burlap sandbags to be in compliance with ban. Residents can dispose of plastic sandbags and sand at the City’s lot located on PCH at Heathercliff in the Point Dume area. Due to weight restrictions, only empty plastic sandbags should be placed in the bin. Please empty the sand from the plastic sandbags at the side of the bin before disposing of the bags in the bin. Learn more about all of the City’s plastic bans on the plastics webpage.
