[ARCHIVED] Celebrate Malibu's Ocean Environment at Honor the Ocean, Sat. Oct. 20

Honor the Ocean Newsflash

Join the City of Malibu in celebrating our underwater parks at Honor the Ocean, Saturday, October 20, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM at Zuma Beach, Tower 14. California's Marine Protected Areas (MPA) preserve our gorgeous marine ecosystems for future generations. Free, educational, environmental and cultural fun for the family! The event kicks off with a ceremonial blessing by Chumash elders, whose ancestors were Malibu's first residents thousands of years ago, followed by the rare opportunity to see a traditional Chumash Tomol canoe up close. The Bay Foundation will host a fun, educational scavenger hunt and USC Sea Grant will lead a guided beach walk. Enjoy storytelling by indigenous Chumash and Tongva elders, and learn about ocean safety from Los Angeles County Lifeguards. For more information, visit www.MalibuCity.org/HonorOcean

The Los Angeles MPA Collaborative channels broad and diverse perspectives to build ocean resilience and promote the cultural, recreational, and ecological value of Los Angeles County’s marine protected areas. Learn more at http://www.mpacollaborative.org/la.
