[ARCHIVED] Community Services Department Launches New Girls’ Sports Campaign

New Girls Basketball League

The Community Services Department is launching the “Play Like a Girl” social media campaign and invites individuals in the Malibu community to share their epic girls’ sports moments on social media with the #PlayLikeAGirlMalibu hashtag. The campaign aims to encourage girls of all ages to participate in the City’s wide offerings of youth sports classes, and also provide a platform for girls’ sports programs to be highlighted in the community.

The #PlayLikeAGirlMalibu campaign kicks off with a new Girls Basketball League for Winter 2018 for grades K-8 with teams competing in divisions based on grade (K-1; 2-3; 4-5; and 6-8). The program emphasizes participation, fun, and sportsmanship, including minimum playing time requirements.

Registration for the new girls basketball program is now open online at www.malibucity.org/register or in person at Bluffs Park or City Hall - the registration deadline is Friday, October 12. Games will take place on Saturdays beginning December 1, with practice days to be chosen by a volunteer coach. Parents are expected to volunteer as coaches, assistant coaches and team parents.
