[ARCHIVED] City Submits Official Comments on MRCA's Puerco Canyon Project

MRCA Puerco Newsflash 2

The City of Malibu submitted official comments to the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) on its Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for its proposed Puerco Canyon Camp and Trailhead Project, laying out numerous serious concerns about the project. The proposed project includes: construction and operation of a regional hiking trail system; recreational facilities for day-use visitors as well as individual and organized group camping; and enhancement of the region’s fire protection services. The project would be at the end of Puerco Canyon Road, just north of Malibu city limits in unincorporated Los Angeles County. Malibu residents were able to give their public comment through July 9 about the proposed project and any associated environmental concerns, including potential mitigation measures and possible alternatives to the proposed Project, and a public scoping meeting was held on June 27 where attendees could give public comments. The City's comment letter is available at https://www.malibucity.org/DocumentCenter/View/22414/07-09-18_Puerco_Malibu_Scoping_Comments
