The City’s proposed short-term rental ordinance is scheduled to go before the Planning Commission at their regular meeting on Monday, May 7, 6:30 PM at Malibu City Hall. Public participation is a vital part of the process of developing a short-term rental ordinance, so all community members are encouraged to attend and give their input. There will be a public comment period during the hearing. The proposed ordinance would amend Title 17 (Zoning Ordinance) of the Malibu Municipal Code regarding short-term rental of property, or vacation rentals. Short-term rental of residential property is currently allowed in single-family homes in the City if the property is registered with the City and the 12% Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) is remitted to the City. Short-term rentals must also comply with City regulations, including those addressing parking, noise and special event gatherings.
The meeting will be broadcast live on Malibu City TV and live streamed on the website at https://www.malibucity.org/328/City-TV and on Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/user/CityofMalibu/videos, and can be viewed on-demand after the meeting at https://www.malibucity.org/662/Public-Meeting-Video-Archive.
