UPDATE 10/24/8:30 AM - SCE may shut off power on Cuthbert Circuit in Malibu (approx. Latigo Cyn Rd to Bonsall Dr) sometime between 7AM and 11AM today, 10/24 to reduce risk of wildfire ignition amidst strong wind conditions. Community support vehicle is at Bluffs Park.
-------------------------------------------------
10/23/2022 - Due to the potential for a PSPS, SCE will deploy a Community Crew Vehicle in the parking lot of the Michael Landen Community Center at Malibu Bluffs Park (located at PCH and Malibu Canyon Road) starting the morning of Monday, October 24. Standard hours of operation will be 7:00 AM – 11:00 PM. However, if there is no PSPS, the Community Crew Vehicle will be cancelled. If there is a PSPS, then it will stay until the event is over.
If there is a PSPS, the re-energization process includes the inspection of lines and repairing any damaged lines, which can take 3 – 8 hours or longer depending on the event and any damage that occurs to lines.
Southern California Edison (SEC) has given the City of Malibu initial notification for a possible Public Safety Power Shut-Off (PSPS) on the Cuthbert and Galahad circuits beginning Sunday, October 23, 9:00 PM through Monday at 12:00 PM. Cuthbert Circuit - Approximately Latigo Cyn Rd to Bonsall Dr, and from PCH approximately 1 mile inland. Galahad Circuit - Approximately the western edge of Point Dume to Point Mugu and 2-4 miles inland. SCE has notified customers in the impacted area.
City staff are monitoring the situation and will provide updates as needed. Look up your circuit map at https://malibucity.org/973/SCE-Circuit-Maps. POWER OUTAGE PREPAREDNESS TIPS
- Keep battery-operated or solar-powered lights (don’t use candles)
- Make sure your cellphone is fully charged in case of an emergency. If possible fully charge any spare or back up batteries.
- Always have emergency cash available, since ATMs and credit card machines may not be functioning.
- Gas station pumps may be inoperable. Keep your vehicle gas tank full.
- A refrigerator will keep food cold for about four hours. A full freezer will keep its temperature for about 48 hours. Place bags of ice in the refrigerator and freezer, or in an additional cooler. DO NOT OPEN refrigerator or freezer doors while the power is out. Throw away any food that has been above 40°F for two hours or more, or anything that has an unusual odor, color, or texture to avoid food-borne illness.
- If the power is out for more than a day, discard any medication that requires refrigeration, unless the label says otherwise.
- Never use a gas or propane stove or oven to heat your home.
- Monitor local news, especially AM and FM radio stations, which will continue to function with a hand crank, battery, solar-powered and car radios when power is out.
- During a PSPS or any power outage, electronic gates and garage door openers may not work. Gates should be left open and garage door openers set to manual operation to ensure you can get in and out of your property, and fire, paramedics or police can get to you when needed. See instructional video.
