CITY COUNCIL TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING ON DARK SKY ORDINANCE PUBLIC HEARING DECEMBER 13
The Malibu City Council will hold a public hearing during the regular virtual Council meeting on Monday, December 13, 6:30 PM to consider amending the compliance deadlines of the Dark Sky Ordinance.
In 2013, Malibu enacted the Dark Sky ordinance to create standards and regulations that promote energy conservation and protect our wildlife, habitats and quality of life of the community from light pollution. For more information, visit the Dark Sky webpage.
The Planning Commission held a public hearing on amending the deadlines on November 1 and recommended the Council approve a staggered schedule to achieve compliance: March 30, 2022 for development within commercial zoning districts; June 15, 2022 for development within an institutional zoning district; and October 15, 2022 for development within residential zoning districts. On September 27, when the Council initiated the amendment proceedings, it initially proposed all zoning districts to come into compliance by October 15, 2022.
The meeting agenda, staff report, viewing and commenting instructions are posted on the website.
