WINTER HOLIDAY HOURS AND CLOSURES  

City Hall will be closed in observance of the winter holidays from Wednesday, December 24 through Thursday, January 1. While general City services will be paused during this period, the City of Malibu remains committed to supporting residents impacted by the Broad, Franklin and Palisades Fires. Rebuild-related services and emergency support will continue to be available. 

City Parks - open for regular hours, 8:00 AM to sunset.  

The Michael Landon Community Center - open from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Wednesday, December 24, and Wednesday, December 31, and will remain open for regular hours, 8:00 AM to sunset all other days.  

The Community Swimming Pool - closed Wednesday, December 24 and Thursday, December 25, and Wednesday, December 31 and Thursday, January 1.  

Senior Center - closed from Wednesday, December 24, through Friday, January 2, and will reopen on Monday, January 5.  

Rebuild Center Operations - open on a limited basis to assist fire-affected property owners and applicants. Plan reviews will continue and staff will be accepting submittals and corrections. 

  • Hours:8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Mon - Fri 
  • Closed: December 24 (Christmas Eve), December 25 (Christmas Day), December 31 (New Year’s Eve), and January 1 (New Year’s Day)

Other Services: Plan Reviews, submittals, corrections, and inspection requests will be accepted – submit using the Development Portal (click “Rebuild Expedited”). For all other inquires email maliburecovers@malibucity.org or call 310-456-2489, ext. 400. 

Development Portal & Counter Services

  • The Development Portal will remain accessible for applicants and property owners to view and upload information to existing projects.
  • New non-rebuild submittals and regular processing will be paused during theholidayclosure.
  • In-person counter services will not be available, and routine staff email monitoring will be limited.

For urgent or time-sensitive matters, the following services will remain available on a limited basis:

Planning & Permit Deadlines 

  • PermitExpirations: Ifyourplanning or building permit is approachingexpiration, please emailmplanning@malibucity.orgormbuilding@malibucity.orgbefore theexpirationdate. Required documents and fees will be processed once City Hall reopens.
  • Appeals: Planning appeal periods will be extended to account for the City Hall closure. Please refer to the Local Appeal section of the decision notice for the adjusted deadline.

Event Permits 
Deadlines to submit for events requiring a Special Event Permit or Temporary Use Permit (TUP), and scheduled to occur during the Holiday Closure:  

  • Special Event Permit - Tuesday, December 23
  • TUP-Planning Clearance - Tuesday, December 23
  • TUP Express - Wednesday, December 17

Holiday Construction Restrictions 
Construction is prohibited on City holidays, including Christmas Day and New Year’s Day [Malibu Municipal Code Section 8.24.050 (G)].
