The City of Malibu conducted its General Municipal Election on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, to fill three Councilmember seats.


Following were the candidates for the November 3, 2020 General Municipal Election (in ballot order, as determined by the Secretary of State):

  • Andy Lyon, Residential Realtor
  • Paul Grisanti, Real Estate Broker
  • Doug Stewart, Businessman
  • Bruce Lee Silverstein, Attorney
  • Lance Simmens, Author
  • Rick Mullen, Incumbent
  • Steve Uhring, Retired Business Executive
  • Mark Wetton, Business Consultant


The measure voted upon at the election was as follows:

Shall a measure be adopted increasing the transient occupancy tax paid by hotel and other lodging guests from 12% to 15% of rent charged, raising approximately $775,000 annually until ended by voters, with revenue to be controlled and used locally for general municipal services in Malibu?

These results are deemed official by the City Clerk and approved by the Malibu City Council by Resolution No. 20-63.
