The City of Malibu conducted its General Municipal Election on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, to fill two Councilmember seats.

Candidates for City Council

Following were the candidates for the November 6, 2018 General Municipal Election (in ballot order, as determined by the Secretary of State):

  • Karen Farrer, Community Volunteer
  • Olivia Damavandi, Community Volunteer
  • Jim Palmer, Accountant/Winemaker
  • Mikke Pierson, Small Business Owner
  • Lance Simmens, Author


The measure voted upon at the election was as follows:

Shall the ordinance be adopted to (1) allow and regulate cannabis (marijuana) businesses; (2) permit existing medical marijuana dispensaries to sell and deliver recreational (adult use) cannabis; and (3) impose a new general tax of 2.5% of gross receipts from sales of non-medical cannabis, the revenues from which may be used for general city purposes, until repealed by voters, which tax is estimated to raise approximately $75,000-150,000 annually?

These results are deemed official by the City Clerk and approved by the Malibu City Council by Resolution No. 18-67.
