Updated 06/10/21 - The Public Hearing that was scheduled for June 7, 2021 has been postponed and will be considered at the June 21, 2021 virtual Regular Planning Commission meeting at 6:30 PM. The Planning Commission will consider the environmental document, code amendments, and entitlements and make a recommendation to the City Council. Updated 3/12/21 - The Sea View Hotel Project (Project) is a proposed +/- 39 room hotel development with associated amenities, including a spa, restaurant, private decks, and a rooftop deck with a pool, proposed on a 51,776 square foot (1.19 acre) project site. The project site is located on Pacific Coast Highway, near the Malibu Pier, and is comprised of two adjacent commercially developed parcels, 22729 and 22741 Pacific Coast Highway. The project would redevelop and replace the existing development and uses on the project site with the hotel development and use. 

Code Updates

The site is designated Community Commercial (CC) by both the General Plan, Malibu Municipal Code, and Malibu Local Coastal Program. The proposed hotel use is not a permitted use in the CC zone. Therefore, a change in the land use designation and zoning to Commercial Visitor Serving (CV) and CV-2 is included in the project description. The applicant is requesting various amendments to the General Plan, Malibu Municipal Code Title 17 (Zoning), and Local Coastal Program.

The project will require review by the Environmental Review Board and public hearings will be held before the Planning Commission, City Council, and California Coast Commission. The City published a Notice of Intent to Adopt a Mitigated Negative Declaration / Initial Study on February 4, 2021. The public comment period for this project was from February 4, 2021 through March 4, 2021, and through March 11, 2021 for public agencies. The purpose of this review was to allow public agencies and interested members of the public the opportunity to provide comments on the project.
