PCH/Kanan Dume Intersection & Arrester Bed Improvements Project
Project Overview
New Kanan Arrester BedThis project will improve safety along Kanan Dume Rd and at the intersection of Kanan Dume Rd and Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) by upgrading the existing truck arrester bed, which was installed on Kanan Dume Rd by the County of Los Angeles prior to the City’s incorporation.

Project Details
The arrester bed is intended to slow runaway trucks and prevent them from reaching the intersection at PCH. This project realigned, extended, and upgraded the existing arrester bed to current standards. The improvements include channelizing the intersection, modifying the existing gravel-filled arrester bed, and installing new, additional signage along Kanan Dume Rd.

Construction began in March 2014 and was completed in December 2014. On January 26, 2015, the City Council accepted the work as complete, and directed staff to record a Notice of Completion.

This project was funded by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro).
