Craig George joined the City in 1995 as its Building Safety Supervisor. Craig has played a key role in the development of environmental and wastewater programs for the City. He helped guide the evolution of the Environmental Building Safety Department while serving as the Department Manager. He was also instrumental in creating the Environmental Sustainability Department where he served as the Department’s first Manager. Craig became the Acting Environmental Sustainability Director and formally assumed the Director’s position in 2016. Craig earned a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Biology from California State University, Northridge. He is a native of Southern California and has been actively involved in ocean sports and ecology all his life.
Craig has advanced many of the innovative Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) programs for the City including the Operating Permit for OWTS, the OWTS Practitioner Registration Program, the Point of Sale Program, and the Integrated Wastewater Information Management System computer program. Craig initiated and established the graywater program and the rainwater harvesting program. Craig has served on the Board of Directors of the California Onsite Wastewater Association for over 15 years.
