Mikke Pierson was elected to the City Council in November 2018. His term will expire in November 2022. He was elected Mayor Pro Tem in September 2019.
Mikke has been involved in Malibu politics for many years as a Planning Commissioner and a Public Works Commissioner. He is also a co-chair on the Santa Monica Homelessness Steering Committee, and has been very involved in SurfAid International since 2000 as an International Board member and US Board member. SurfAid International runs health and mother/child wellness programs in remote areas of Indonesia.
Mikke was born and raised in Malibu and his family has lived in Malibu for four generations. He attended Juan Cabrillo Elementary, Malibu Middle School, and Santa Monica High School. He graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
Mikke has been an entrepreneur since college and has owned several businesses. He was a partner in Zuma Jay’s in the late 1980’s and founded and ran ZJ Boarding House until it sold in 2015. He is also a founder of the Board Retailers Association, a nationwide action sports retail association.
Mikke is currently the owner of Pierson Business Growth Solutions. He is a business growth expert, public speaker, and certified business coach, helping businesses define and achieve their goals. Mikke has decades of experience in coaching and mentoring business owners and employees. Mikke coaches his clients by improving their leadership and communication skills and guiding his clients towards achieving greater success in all areas of their business. As an entrepreneur and businessman with more than 30 years of business experience, Mikke has a strong ability to analyze the challenges and opportunities within organizations. He then empowers stakeholders to develop and execute plans that create meaningful changes and tangible results.
His experiences and skills as a business coach fit perfectly with the skills needed to be successful in local politics. Mikke is also an avid mountain biker and surfer. He lives in the Malibu West neighborhood with his wife Maggie. They have three children: Colin, Emmet, and Gracie.
