Thank you for your interest in the 22nd annual Malibu Chumash Day Powwow and Intertribal Gathering. Chumash Day will take place at Malibu Bluffs Park on April 4-5 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Arts and Craft Vendor Application Deadline: Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 4:00 PM.
Submitting an application and paying the vendor fee does not guarantee a space at the event.
Acceptance letters and booth location assignments will be distributed on or before Wednesday, March 11, 2020.
Vendor booth fees must be made to the City of Malibu in one single payment. Vendors not accepted, will receive a returned check for the full amount. Vendor booth fees paid online by credit card will be refunded by check within 14 business days from Wednesday, March 11, 2020.
Vendor spaces are limited. The City of Malibu will make every effort to accommodate desired space size and location, but neither is guaranteed.
Food Vendor Application Deadline: Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at 5:00 PM.
The deadline to request a refund is Wednesday, April 1, 2020. Refund requests must be submitted online at MalibuCity.org/refund.
California Sellers Permit: Each vendor must obtain a current California Sellers Permit by Wednesday, March 6, 2019. For additional information, contact the California State Board of Equalization at
800-400-7115 or visit http://www.boe.ca.gov.
Arts and Crafts Vendors: Vendor must be in compliance with the Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990. For additional information, contact the U.S. Department of the Interior at 1-888-ART-FAKE or visit www.IACB.doi.gov.
Photographs: All vendors must provide a minimum of three photographs. One photograph must include the booth display, including the canopy/overhead structure, merchandise displays, tables, canopy walls, etc. Photos can be uploaded online or emailed to LCrespo@MalibuCity.org.
Nonprofit Booths: Provide a written description of your organization and the services you provide for the Native American community. Include any samples of information that will be distributed at the event and 501 (c)(3) number. Selling of merchandise is not permitted.
Food Vendors: A menu, including prices, and the application are due by Wednesday, February 19, 2020. The menu and pricing must be consistent with what will be offered the day of the event. All plastic utensils, plastic straws, polystyrene products, and plastic shopping bags are PROHIBITED (Malibu Municipal Code Chapter 9.24). For more information, visit MalibuCity.org/ChumashDay.
Vendor space is open to all artists, with a preference for quality Native American handcrafted goods. Vendors merchandise must represent Native American products within the United States, and all items must be marketed truthfully regarding Native American heritage and tribal affiliation according to the Indian Arts & Crafts Act of 1990, the Indian Arts & Crafts Enforcement Act of 2000 amendment, and the Indian Arts & Crafts Amendments Act of 2010. Under the Act, an Indian is defined as a member of any federally-recognized Indian Tribe, or an individual certified as an Indian artisan by an Indian Tribe. The sale of sage, sweet grass, cedar, firearms, tobacco, and other medicine plants is strictly prohibited. The sale of animal products must be identified, including the identity of species and origin. The sale of animal products must be approved by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and/or U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services. Food and drinks may not be sold by craft vendors.

The City of Malibu Community Services staff reserves the right to close any space that is not being conducted in conformance with the general rules, or is not being managed properly. The City of Malibu prohibits the use of polystyrene (“Styrofoam”) products, single-use plastic utensils, plastic straws, and plastic bags. Please attempt to utilize products which are made with recycled and/or are recyclable whenever possible. No alcohol, drugs, or smoking is permitted on the park grounds.
Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations to participate in the programs in which you are registering must inform the City of Malibu at the time of registration is submitted. Individuals needing such accommodations must document the need for such accommodations to complete the registration form or participate in the registered program. The City of Malibu, as a matter of policy and law, will administer and conduct all City Programs in such a manner that no qualified individual with a disability will be excluded from participation in, or be denied benefits of services, programs, or activities of the City. I hereby acknowledge that I am voluntarily participating in this Program. I hereby release, discharge and agree not to sue the City of Malibu, including its officers, employees and agents, (hereinafter the “City”) for any injury, death or damage to, or loss of personal property arising out of, or in connection with, participation in the Program from whatever cause, including the active or passive negligence of the CITY or any other participants in the program. In consideration of being permitted to participate in the event I hereby agree, for myself, my heirs, agents, representatives, administrators, executors and assigns, that I shall defend, indemnify and hold harmless the CITY, its officers, agents and employees from and against any and all liability, loss, damage, expense, costs (including costs and fees of litigation), claims, demands, actions or suits arising out of or in connection with, or related in any way to, my participation in the Program, except such loss or damage which was caused by the sole negligence or willful misconduct of the City. I have carefully read this release, hold harmless, indemnification agreement and agreement not to sue and fully understand its contents. I am aware that it is a full release of all liability and sign at my own free will.
I further agree and acknowledge that the CITY does not provide accident, medical, liability, workers’ compensation insurance or any other insurance for event participants. I agree that the CITY has the right to use photos taken of me and/or my child and property during activities for publicity purposes.
This Agreement is not intended, and shall not be construed, to create the relationship of agency, servant, employee, partnership, joint venture or association, as between the City and VENDOR. This Agreement shall be governed by California law, and venue for any action regarding this agreement shall lie exclusively in Los Angeles County. This agreement may be altered only by written modification executed by all parties.
I have carefully read this release, hold harmless and agreement not to sue and fully understand its contents. I am aware that it is a full release of all ability and sign at my own free will.
I further agree and acknowledge that the City does not provide accident, medical, liability, workers’ compensation insurance or any other insurance for program participants. I further agree to pay any and all costs incurred as a result of said treatment. I agree to carefully inspect and satisfy for myself that the facilities provided are reasonably safe for their intended use. I understand the City retains the right to use photos and video taken of me during activities for publicity purposes.
