Public Comments Accepted Through Feb. 7 for MRCA's Proposal for Coastal Accessways in Malibu

JAN newsflash-04

Residents can submit public comments through February 7 on the the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) proposal for a Malibu Coastal Access Public Works Plan (PWP) for public beach accessways in Malibu.

On December 9, 2019, the MRCA released a Notice of Preparation (NOP) for an Environmental Impact Report for the proposed Malibu Coastal Access Public Works Plan (PWP). The PWP includes 17 publicly-owned sites along the coast in the City. The PWP consists of development plans and management policies for up to seven public beach accessways. The PWP also includes 10 accessways that are currently open and managed by MRCA or are under development by MRCA for public beach access. The City is currently processing Coastal Development Permits (CDPs) for several of these projects. City staff is reviewing the document and project with the City Attorney’s office. The MRCA and the State Coastal Conservancy (SCC) are co-lead agencies for the proposed PWP.  Both the MRCA and the SCC prepared the NOP.

A copy of the NOP and Initial Study are available to print or download on the MRCA website. Hard copies are available to view at the Malibu Library (23519 West Civic Center Way, Malibu, CA 90265) and at King Gillette Ranch (26800 Mulholland Highway, Calabasas, CA 91302). There is a public comment period from December 9, 2019 through February 7, 2020.
