DARK SKY ORDINANCE INFORMATIONAL MEETING, JULY 20, 4:00 pm
As the October 15, 2022, deadline to comply with the City's Dark Ordinance approaches, the City is working to help commercial properties be prepared to comply with the Dark Sky requirements. Commercial property owners or managers are invited to attend a virtual informational meeting on Wednesday, July 20, 4:00 PM to get guidance and information and ask questions from City staff. Meeting link. The Dark Sky Ordinance aims to reduce light pollution through the proper application of outdoor electric lighting. Requirements include light fixtures that are fully shielded, have low color temperature, and direct light downwards. For more details, visit the Dark Sky webpage.
CITY COUNCIL VIRTUAL PUBLIC HEARING ON AMENDMENT TO DARK SKY ORDINANCE tentatively rescheduled to august 8
The Malibu City Council virtual public hearing to consider an amendment to the City's Dark Sky Ordinance scheduled on June 27 has been rescheduled to Monday, August 8, 2022. The amendment would allow a light trespass limit for commercially and institutionally zoned properties onto the public right-of-way. The Council will also consider the recommendations of the Planning Commission.
The staff report, viewing and commenting instructions will be posted in advance of the meeting on the Virtual Meeting webpage. The Notice of Public Hearing is posted on the website.
Members of the public are encouraged to submit comments by email to the City Council before the meeting begins.
Compliance Deadlines Extended - On January 10, 2022, the City Council extended the deadlines for commercial, residential, and institutional zoning districts to comply with Dark Sky Ordinance to October 15, 2022. The extension was in response to concerns about non-compliance and community feedback requesting more time and information about the requirements. The compliance period for gas stations remains October 15, 2019.
