2021 National Preparedness Month - Thursday, September 9, 10:30 AM & Thursday, September 23, 3:30 PM – Home Wildfire Hardening virtual Seminar
As part of the City's free events all month in September for National Preparedness Month, Malibu’s Fire Safety Liaison will teach residents how to protect their homes against the millions of flying burning embers that can rain down on a home and property during a wind-driven wildfire like the Woolsey Fire. Flying embers are a leading cause of homes igniting and burning down during wildfires.
If these embers land in receptive fuels or become lodged in something easily ignited on or near a house, the home can burn down. There are often simple and inexpensive ways to harden your home against flying embers, such as boxing in eves, installing wire mesh over attic vents, and moving flammable furniture, fencing and vegetation away from structures. Creating and maintaining defensible space and proper brush clearance are crucial. Malibu has always been and always will be threatened by wildfires, but you can help protect our community by protecting your own home.
Residents can RSVP for the free virtual seminar at MalibuSafety.Eventbrite.com.
