CA Insurance Commissioner Virtual Workshop - Wildfire Mitigation & Insurance Rates
Thursday, December 10, 2020
California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara will host a virtual workshop, "Modeling Wildfire Risk and Mitigation in the Era of Climate Change – A Workshop on Insurance Availability and Affordability," on Thursday, December 10, at 9:30 AM.
Insurance Commissioner Lara, along with fire and home hardening experts, and wildfire catastrophe modeling experts, will hold a virtual public workshop regarding potential administrative and regulatory changes to incentivize home-hardening and discuss models that are based in fire science to protect lives and property.
This meeting will involve a technical, science-based review of two questions:
- How - if at all - would the use of catastrophe modeling in ratemaking help to make homeowners’ insurance more affordable and more widely available to homeowners?
- How can wildfire mitigation reduce the spread and risks of future wildfires?
All members of the public are invited to view this meeting and also to provide written comments following the conclusion of the meeting.
It is not necessary to RSVP in advance to virtually observe this meeting, but you can register online in advance.
