SEALIONS PRE-REQUISITES AND GOALS
To join Sealions, swimmers must be able to swim 100 yards of freestyle in 2 minutes or less and 25 yards of backstroke and/ or breaststroke across the pool. The swimmers will be taught all four main swimming strokes during the 45 minute sessions. The Head Coach will teach and challenge the swimmers with specific drills and tailored kick and pull sets. The swimmers will also be introduced to the joys of swimming, breathing techniques and being part of a team. The Head Coach will set up a try out swim for any new swimmers to identify the skill levels and decide what group to assign.
BLUE GROUP PRE-REQUISITES AND GOALS
The Blue Group takes swimming from a basic level to a more proficient way of moving through the water and building on endurance. Workouts are 1 hour long and more attention is given to advanced drills and stroke work as well as proper starts and turns in all 4 strokes. Blue Group Swimmers are being prepared for entry level competitions with tailored training techniques and a focus on building self-confidence. Through team practices and building exercises, blue group swimmers will turn into junior elite swimmers before moving to the green group. Only the Coach decides whether a new swimmer or current Sealion is ready to move to the Blue group, or if a Blue Group swimmer is ready to move up to the Green Group. All Blue swimmers should be able to swim 100 yards of freestyle in 1 minute and 40 seconds or less and swim a correct 25 yard lap of all 4 strokes.
GREEN GROUP PRE-REQUISITES AND GOALS
Swimmers in the Green Group have advanced to a thorough understanding of all four strokes. The swimmers at this level will continue to work on their endurance and speed and will learn the most advanced skill levels of the strokes, starts and turns. Workouts are 90 minutes long and the focus is on proper technique and efficiency at a highly competitive level. In addition, our Green swimmers will also become more aware of their mental strength and emotions and continue with building their self-confidence. The Green Group starts producing elite swimmers who have developed their desire to make swimming their number one choice of sport. Competition goals include Junior Olympics for many of this group as well as other competitions throughout California and at the National level. Any swimmer in the Green Group, or new swimmer at this level, will meet with the Head Coach before joining to discuss goals and specific workout requirements tailored to their individual skill level and aspirations. Green swimmers should be able to swim 100 yards of freestyle in one minute and 15 seconds or less and be proficient in all four strokes.
gold group pre-requisites and goals
Gold Group swimmers are current or future College level Division 1 swimmers as well as professional athletes who plan on making NCAA finals and/ or qualify for National Championships and Olympic Trials. These swimmers are coached at the highest level with a full-time focus on high-intensity workouts and endurance, and required to swim year-round. They will participate at all Regional and National Championship meets on a quarterly basis as set forth by the Coaching staff. Potential Gold Group swimmers will meet with the coaching staff first to create a 2 to 4 year building plan and discuss goals and specific workout requirements. Gold swimmers should be able to swim a minimum of qualifying times for Junior and/ or Senior Nationals.
The Malibu Aquatics Foundation offers the Masters Program, a swimming program for Ages 18+ designed for all skill levels of swimmers who want to use swimming as a great way to get or stay in shape. Members of the community can join workouts to prepare for fitness events, triathlons, or for general conditioning.
