City's State Representatives Take Oath of Office in Sacramento

Richard Bloom, former Mayor of Santa Monica, was sworn in on December 4, as the Assemblymember for California's newly formed District 50, which includes Malibu, Agoura Hills, Topanga, Pacific Palisades, Bel Air, Brentwood, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood and areas of West Los Angeles and Hollywood.

"This is a great honor and I am humbled that the people of the 50th District put their faith in me," said Bloom. "The greatest challenge my colleagues and I face in the Assembly is putting California on a fair, responsible and sustainable fiscal path. While we must confront the issues facing the state, we must not do so at the expense of our most vulnerable citizens: the poor, seniors, disabled and the millions of children attending our public schools."

Senator Fran Pavley retained her position in the State Senate in the newly realigned 27th Senate District that merged the coastal region from Leo Carillo State Beach to Topanga (including Malibu) with cities in Eastern Ventura County above the Conejo Grade and the greater Santa Monica Mountain area (including Agoura Hills and Westlake Village), as well as communities in the western San Fernando Valley along the Highway 101 and 118 corridors.

"I am proud to continue my public service to my community, Ventura and Los Angeles Counties, as well as the State of California. It is an honor to be re-elected and represent all of the people in this very diverse district," said Senator Pavley.

On the first day of her new term, Senator Pavley introduced several legislative proposals, including a comprehensive bill to address ongoing concerns about a controversial oil and gas extraction method called hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking," and "The Higher Education Energy Solutions Act," a proposal to cut the state's higher education costs through comprehensive energy savings action plans at California's public colleges and universities.
