City Named 2012 Outstanding Agency of the Year
The City of Malibu has been named the recipient of the 2012 Outstanding Agency of the Year Award and the 2012 Outstanding New Recreation Facility Award by the Channel Cities Municipal Athletic Association (CCMAA), a nonprofit organization comprised of cities and park districts throughout Southern California. The awards are presented to recognize agencies that that strive to create healthier communities through sports and physical activities.
"Malibu is proud to offer opportunities for all to enjoy the health and recreational benefits of athletic participation," said Mayor Lou La Monte. "The City is very appreciative of these commendations from the Channel Cities Municipal Athletic Association."
The Outstanding Agency of the Year Award celebrates Malibu's 2012 Adult and Youth Sports Calendar, which offers a variety of physical activities. The Outstanding New Recreation Facility Award recognizes recent expansions of public facilities with construction costs of at least $500,000. Malibu's new City Hall was selected for the expansion of its Parks & Recreation Department, which now provides a wider variety of public programs.
These mark the third and fourth CCMAA awards for the City of Malibu, which has also won the award for Innovative Sports Programming in 2010 and 2011. CCMAA is one of 8 associations in the Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation, which encompasses ten counties and more than 225 cities and agencies serving a population of over 15 million people.
